Ingredients

For the Chocolate Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt or sour cream
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

For the Ricotta Batter

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

Instructions

Prepare the Oven and Pan

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and flour a 9-inch bundt or loaf pan.

Make the Chocolate Batter

In a medium bowl, whisk together:

  • flour
  • cocoa powder
  • baking powder
  • baking soda
  • salt

In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Alternate adding the dry ingredients and the yogurt (or sour cream), beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
Stir in the milk until smooth, then fold in the chocolate chips if using.

Prepare the Ricotta Batter

In a separate bowl, mix together:

  • ricotta cheese
  • sugar
  • egg
  • vanilla extract
  • flour

Mix until smooth and creamy.

Assemble the Cake

Spoon half of the chocolate batter into the prepared pan.
Add half of the ricotta batter on top in dollops.

Repeat with the remaining chocolate and ricotta batters.
Using a knife or skewer, gently swirl the batters to create a marbled effect.

Bake

Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool

Let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips

  • Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter and better rise.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing to preserve the marbled pattern.
